Elizabeth and Isabella designed, painted and probably assembled, much stained glass during their lives. Their work has survived in a number of churches and almshouses in England. At Castle Oliver, they made their finest piece, the 'St. Patrick' window. Sadly this was destroyed by vandals in 1986, although enough fragments still exist to see the superb quality of their work. In 1985 Noel Oliver, a descendant of the family, visited the castle and took photographs of the window, and other features.
The owners are indebted to Mr. Oliver for allowing us to reproduce many of his pictures. |
